#the nation in the dark
THE NATION IN THE DARK
I
From Mongo Park’s canoe,
over the river of Niger,
down to Flora Shaw’s orgasm
that named Nigeria,
all is a distorted history.
II
From Royal Niger Company,
to amalgamation,
down to independence
that begat our troubles
all is a misnomer.
From our Republic,
to the 1966 troubles,
down to the failed military revolution,
this impregnated our regions
into continuous cold war.
From the young guerilla soldiers,
to the night of bloodshed
down to the Igbo massacre
that birthed the civil war
all is the handiwork of colonialsim.
III
From our deep history of glory,
to our days of fallen brothers
down to our neglected days,
that resulted in our slavery in a civilian era,
All is the African man’s fault.
IV
There is a train that goes
from Mafoluku Oshodi to Ikeja Along.
There is a girl,
who manages the Tony street down to Allen Avenue.
______ deprived of life.
The train carries young men,
hard working and relentless to survive.
V
The girl labors,
she is a farce of Nigerian democracy.
There is a creek,
Makooko creek, on water, all is done;
bathing, stooling and love making,
all done on the Makooko creek.
Canoe runs Makooko,
a creek, yet in the Urban of Lagos.
VI
I remember,
that Marooko was a slump,
another government said it’s chanties,
rendering people homeless for the few rich,
Who will house the slump dwellers?
The masses,
The Mekunu are starved.
_____ the people need to rise for power!
